RooS Monday, 31 July 2000 - Last weekend I've been holding online elimnations for a tournament that's going to take place in a few weeks. What I witnessed FAR bypassed my modest expectations. The games played were simply OUTSTANDING. I dare to say they were on par if not better than Lansanity recordings. I took the opportunity to throughly test a candidate map for upcoming CPM map pak. It's called Despiiise by Centaura, but over here we call it CPM5 already. All my assumtions proved right and this is simply a perfect level for competitive play. Look below for a fantastic demo to prove it. All of the tournament demos are worth seeing, but if I had to pick a few, it would be those listed below:
They are all very small files, due to the 10min timelimit. If you want to pick just one of the demos to watch, get the CPM5 one. Try to imagine the tournament setting, with the looser dropping out of the tournament (loosers bracket) and just watch in awe ;) P.S. Remember the argument about "blowout matches" that are frequent with CPM? Well, guess what, it didn't happen. THere are some beatuful "frag runs" though and that's what we all love, don't we? They were present in Q1 and just now when games likes XBN vs kOz (Spring Survival) happen, everybody screams how exciting it is to watch. *DUH*!!!. That's what we're trying to recreate in CPM! Why did we have to wait a whole year to see exciting games like those? Will we have to wait another for some more? Not if CPM gets more play time, that's for sure :P Wednesday, 05 July 2000 - I still feel bad about our forfeit to Germans. Hoony convinced me it would be a good idea to try and organize a rematch (not the best term since there was no match in the first place) using Lansanity ProMode build. Hopefully it will happen and we will show the world we are not afraid to play competitively :) It is 5am in Europe as I'm writing this, but as soon as Siro wakes up I'm gonna hammer him about it. If Russians spanked Sweden in their first game, who says we can't do the same to Germany? Now that would be an achievement! Thinking about it some more we agreed that a few international exhibition/fun games would not hurt either and could help to judge PM's performance in team games. I know there is a bunch of PM players scattered around the continent who have a hard time finding good duel opponents, let alone 8 people for teamplay. To those I hereby propose: contact me by mailing to and we will get something going. If you already have a team willing to play, great, if you are alone and looking for team partners, we will find some. Servers are not a problem, there are a few we ping well to in Germany, Sweden, Denmark and Netherlands. Rumor has it Godsmurf is already preparing a very strong Dutch team that is going to kick our PM asses back to VQ3. Bring it on dude! Thursday, 29 June 2000 - The team I selected was comprised of some of the best players in my country who AT THE SAME TIME had access to a net connection giving them 50 ping on European servers. There was and is one problem though: Pro Mode. None of those guys plays Vanilla Q3 whatsoever anymore. It's even "worse" than that - none of the top players in Poland are playing VQ3 at all, so I couldn't just "choose another team that practices VQ3 every day". I tried to organize practice matches but it always ended ProMode after an hour or two. What could I do? Then came two games against EYE which we've lost about 100:200 and everything fell apart. People realized how different VQ3 is from ProMode and how much VQ3 practice they would have to put in to come within a reasonable distance of teams as strong as EYE. They simply weren't willing to do it. I can see how practicing something you don't enjoy can be frustrating and boring. Hell, I even preached ProMode to them myself. I'm quite sure Germany would beat us regardless of the platform (PM or VQ3). But I am also sure that if we played ProMode, there would be no forfeit. Tuesday, 20 June 2000 - |
