Challenge Pro Mode - Project Plan Step 1. DEVELOP CANDIDATE LIST We all "brainstorm" a Candidate List of all the sorts of changes that *could* be in this mod. No limits on thoughts. We encourage input from anyone - we publish the Candidate List as it grows on CHWD in the Projects section. The list will consist of two main columns - the proposed change/ feature, and a description of what it is in sufficient detail that you can get a clear understanding. The Project Management Team organises the list by categories (into mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive categories - "MECE"). They eliminate duplications, clear up inconsistencies, clarify ambiguities. We put "apples with apples" and "oranges with oranges". We finalise the definitions. NOTE: Later on the Project Management Team also adds to the list two more columns - with input from the Programming Team. The programmers provide estimates of "how difficult it is to do" and "how long it would take": 2-3 weeks (should aim to be completed by mid-Jan 2000) Step 2. DETERMINE MODIFICATION COMPONENTS A Design Group consisting of Challenge representatives, invited gamers, and "pundits" determines the changes to be incorporated into "pro mode". At this point we'll determine if "Q1Q3" is required or not, and also identify those changes which can be left until later on for the "Sport" version. The Design Group can also take advice from the Programming Team. The Project Management Team will determine a process by which this can be achieved - and will manage the process. The objective will be to design a decision-making process which can get the job done efficiently and with the minimum amount of hassle. The Project Management Team will consult and agree on this process with the Design and Programming teams *before* implementing it. However, the final decision on that process will be made by the Project Management Team (someone has to make a final decision). 2-3 weeks Step 3. DESIGN AND BUILD Based on the Design produced from Step 2, the Programming Team makes the mods. They make the "pro mod" first, the "Q1Q3" mod (if required) second, and the "Sport edition" is made at a later date. 1 month (concurrent with Step 2) Step 4. TEST There is a testing phase involving gamers from across the Challenge network and other interested parties. Any changes which arise from this phase will be vetted by the Project Management Team, taking into account the wishes of the Design Group and recommendations of the Programming Team. 1 month (concurrent with Step 3) Step 5. ROLL OUT We release the mod. The release strategy is developed and implemented by the Project Management Team. Total time: approx 2-3 months |
