Introduction Summary Table The Projects QW Opinions

QW for the 21st Century

With the release of the Quake source code by id, a lot of projects got underway and I was very interested in finding out how they would turn out. Hence I started this section here on CH-World to gather as much technical info on the projects as I could. I spent a good deal of evenings on finding links, sending mails, compiling the answers and trying to keep the info up to date. Around March-April however, I got started on my very own QW project, albeit of a slightly differnt nature, with Smackdown. And although I am still very interested in the coding stuff, I have not had any time since to devote to this page as is obvious from the deplorable update status of it.
If you want to take over updating this little corner of the web or if you want to put the information to some other good use, please contact ...

Cheers, Jjonez

Well; no update in over 2 months :/
It´s not like there hasn´t been things going on with the source code or anything, but I have been rather (too) busy with this other QW related project, Smackdown. I´m not so sure the update situation of this page will change any time soon, at least not until the league games are well underway.
A while ago I received an e-mail detailing the current state of Quake2000, I´ll try to alter the projects info here accordingly soon. I also received the information for the ICE QW server, which I´ll add to the table too.

I´ve added 3 brand new links, 3 brief descriptions and 4 columns in the table. This brings the total number of projects we know of to 24 with 17 entered in the overview.
Enough numbers for today. I want to thank Ender for pointing out a few mistakes in the overview and giving me an update on some of the projects technical status. Also, it seems co-operation between different groups is well underway now, mostly through the QSG (in which Ender participates).
Please consider that a column with many No´s in the overview doesn´t necesseraly mean it´s a worthless project. Quite the opposite is usually true: many of these smaller projects are created by very professional and dedicated individuals, focussing on a small aspect that later can be incorporated in some of the other projects. Ports to other operating systems or non-PC systems typically belong in this category.
If you spot an error in one of the descriptions or have some more information, send me a .

With the move of the Challenge sites nearly done, I can finally update again. Not being able to update did have an advantage though: I had the time to compile a massive table containing all the information the project managers provided me with. Some projects are still missing from the table (no replies to my e-mail or recently discovered) but you can find the links here. I hope we can fill in these gaps soon.
I´ve also moved some of the other pages around; nothing you would notice however :)
As always, if you know about even more projects or have some comments, let know.

A further 6 projects have been put up on the Links. I have now included the dates of addition next to the project title.
Today I'll also send out a list of questions to all the project coordinators. The questions should cover everything we could possibly want to know about the projects. Big thanks to Scythe, tyl3nol, ZzJohNzZ and Hoony for going through them and suggesting additional ones!

I've added three more projects to the Links: Unofficial GLQuake Update, Fisheye Quake and GoldCup. All are very nice though the latter two score high in the weirdness category. Definately check them out !

On this site, I will gather information on projects developing the source code for Quake/QuakeWorld/GLQuake (QW source for short).

I have now collected a bunch of Links to the projects I know about and added some comments about their current status. This list is a work in progress and eventually I would like to make a clearer overview of which people are addressing which issues and how their progress is.

As a base for this I will probably take my personal Wishlist.

My motivation for this site is clarified in the Debate section.

Send me a if you have additional links, comments or suggestions.
