QW Projects
Open Quartz - added 24 February 2000
Open Quartz can not really be classified among the source code projects as it doesnīt really intend to do anything with the source code itself. Rather they seek to collect models, textures, sound etc. to create alternative .PAK files for Quake allowing the game to be distributed completely free (idīs artwork is not!).
General
Are the extensions/improvements based on (Normal) Quake/Winquake or rather QuakeWorld? Do you plan to eventually release new versions of both?
We are not working on the sourcecode itself, but on the gamedata. We are not linked to any development tree but aim to support and provide Game data for as many different quake variants as possible.
We are however also working on the progs file ( Quake C ) and as such will make improvements and enhancements where needed.
Is the project focussed on a specific OS? Will it be available for the most popular ones (e.g. Windows 95/NT/2000, Linux)?
Once again the gamedata is platform independant, but the progs are not. We will release progs for all possible polatforms. Currently we mainly support Linux and Win32.
Are you aiming more at enhancing the singleplayer or the multiplayer aspect of the game?
We aim to provide for both
Are there any specific bugs you intend to resolve?
null issue :)
Do you intend to actively cooperate with other projects (which)? Is this because of their intereset in similar topics or rather in complementary aspects?
we are involved in the feature discussion along with most quake source developments to provide Gamedata additions to support new features as and when they are added to release canidates
How many people are in your team?
currently about 5-10
Do you have an estimated date of completion and is anything available for download already?
We have a CVS repositry on Sourceforge with can be accessed by all. We are hoping to have a multiplayer release with complete replacement data of all copyrighted Id Software material in possibly a month.
most of the data has been replaced and we are currently working on the player models.
We plan to have multiplayer support and then start working on single player games.
MODS
Do you intend to release a QuakeC 'MOD' together with the executable?
we have not looked at this .. but it's VERY possible.
Will compatibility with existing QuakeC code be maintained?
as much as possible yes.
Will the final download contain custom maps/models/sounds/...? (Please specify.)
Thats what we are trying to do :)
Graphics/Sound
Which feautures would you like to add to the graphics engine?
null question
Are you working on versions for the software renderer, OpenGL, Direct3D, ...?
null question
Do you intend to create a 'unified' look and command list for different versions for the renderer (e.g. polyblend, fullbrights, transparency effects).
null question
Do you plan to alter any of the sound related code?
null question
most of the rest of the question don't apply to our project.
We are not looking at doing any code work appart from progs related. We aim to provide gamedata for quake so that it can be distributed as a complete game :)
Gameplay (multiplayer)
Do you intend to incoorporate proxy-like features such as location and status reporting?
-
Will any reporting features be implemented as simple messages or rather as status bars, maps ...?
-
Will further advanced options, such as real-time voice communications, be considered?
-
Internet Gaming
Are cheat-preventing measures being implemented? If so, on which princple will they be based?
-
Are you considering possibilities pertaining real-time broadcasting of multiplayer games (through proxies)?
-
Will the networking code be optimized (e.g. similar to Qizmo features)?
-
Will the servers/clients you develop be compatible and interopperable with the final id releases? Are existing proxies expected to work with the new code?
