19 March 2000

As promised (well, kinda) we have another review for you today. UKOOLDM2 - The Egyptian Cistern by CopyCat. It's a very different piece from all the modern maps that are coming out today. Looking at this and then at the newer pieces, it's interesting to see how mapping has developed. One thing that's remained intact (and dare I say is even better here than in modern maps?) is the gameplay. UKOOLDM2 simply oozes quailty. There are just so many ways to go about playing it. Anyway, enough of the babbling.... go and take a look.

Later in the week we may just have yet another review for you!

18 March 2000.

We have a new review a new article and a new hardware review today.

The review is of Effigy of the Forgotten by Moloch. A quality piece with an orthodox dapak-style look to it, but a different style of gameplay to the norm. A lot of thinking involved to master this one... EEK!

The article which has been kindly donated by Incantation is of a trick jump on DM2. We have a demo of this in our demos section but this article explains what's involved in a really simple way, making the jump much easier to do. Ever wanted to get upto the grenade launcher in a single rocket jump? Well now you can, if you go here that is!

Lastly we have a review of the new Razer mouse - the Razer Boomslang 2000, a follow up to the Razer Boomslang 1000 (surprisingly)! Unfortunately it has a glaring flaw, although I won't say anymore here, as it's best if you to read about it for yourself...

If you're lucky we may have another custom map review tomorrow also!

Lots and lots of stuff ahead on this update....

First off we have a new review. this one's of Return to Atlantis by Pingu which you can read here. Despite playing a clever one on one, it's also a real blast in FFA and 2on2 games.Well worth checking out.

Second on the list, we have two profiles of players from the US: Vile and CotE|Xoque. Both have some cool stuff to say. Again, recommended reading.

Thirdly ZzJohNzZ has written up some more product reviews for us all to have a look at. How many mice does he have now? I've lost count! Anyway, click here for an in depth look at the Logitech First Mouseman Wheel and the Micorsoft Intellimouse Explorer.

Last but certainly not least, we leave you with the quote of the day, said by that Quaking behemoth ZzJohNzZ shortly after an intense game on Aerowalk:
ZzJohNzZ: "Hey I need to check my Laundry"

'Till next time.

Long time no see eh guys?! Well we've been discussing what our next reviews was be and it seems like we've settled on one now. So here is is! Presenting Shadowmines by Underscore. Quite simply a stunning bit of brushwork. It's got a really cool, bulky feel to it. Despite it's great scale it still plays a slick duel. Definitely one that's worth checking out if you haven't already!

In the mean time we have some hardware and product reviews, with varying results. First of all there's the Everglide Giganta Mousepad. This is an updated version of their older smaller mat and it apparently rox!! The older one was a quality piece of equipment but the extra size really gives those with that use sensitivities in the lower bracket a real boost! Even those that use higher sensitivities will find it a cool buy too, simply due to it's outstanding quality. Well, you can check that out here.

ZzJohNzZ has also whipped up a "big-ass roundup review" of some other new products including some of the newer Geforce graphics cards and the dreaded Windows 2000. One problem found is that QWSV crashes quite frequently (which isn't good for John's server now is it?!). This results in the mouse pointer dissapearing. I've heard of the same problem happening in Windows 98 too (on Hot Cakes' system). It can be a real pain in the ass!! Anyway, go have a look at the "big-ass roundup!".

Till next time - enjoy!

Woohoo! Three more profiles: def from the USA has kindly sent us a revision of his which you can check out here. It contains a great deal of encouraging advice for those up and coming QW stars!

The other two profiles are of Player and morte, two guys that can really kick butt, but also each have a sense of humour - fancy that! For a mixed bag of fun, frolicks and advice, go have a look: Player ...morte

Also on the profiles front you may have noticed that we've moved all our profiles to their own section, away from the articles. The new link is below the articles link on the left-hand toolbar.

In other stuff, we'd also like to five a big shout out to the 1v1 Boron Quake tourney, some of which is taking place on ZzJohNzZ's server: http://www.onebahamas.com/quake/
We've also changed our
links section, as some of the links in the cheats section may have started to point to QW hacks after the release of the source code.

Welp, that's all for now. At the mo we're deciding which maps we're gonna look at next, so until then...

Loads of cool stuff for y'all today:

1. A new custom map review - this one's of Ignorus Hyperborean by Junior. Really really addictive gameplay is the over-riding characteristc of this one, it plays so damn sweetly.

2. A review of the Logitech Mouseman Wheel. A bit of a mixed bag really, some may go for it, some may not. Try before you buy!

3. A new player profile of RaZZa from the UK. Our first UK modemer featured. He's a real tough nut to crack as many 'big names' have found by the sounds of things!

With any luck we may have one or two more profiles up soon too. Nothing else at the moment but we'll leave you with something that someone (who shall remain nameless) said to Hot Cakes as a duel was about to start because they didn't like playing DM4:

Hot Cakes: HF! (have fun)
Other Guy: no.

Hmmm, refusing to have fun - whatever next!

Right then, we have two articles for you, both well worth a read. King Stud has written one hell of an article aimed at beefing up people's strategy on DM6. There was a whole load of really revealing stuff in there that many people will have never thought about before. Nothing short of an essentail read!

Also ZzJohNzZ has bought Mortyr, the Nazi-blasting FPS game and has written up a review of it's single player game. You can check that out here - definitely one for all you wolfenstein fans!

Last but not... well probably least too actually, Hot Cakes has released a little set of two maps for you guys to practice your bunny-hopping on. One is simply a bigger version of the other. Check out IndyCake 500! If you have no idea what on Bunny-hopping is, you could always check out our article here at 3AC!

That's it for now, happy reading/bouncing!

14 January 2000.

Hello there. Sorry still no new review for you. It is in the pipeline though....

Never the less, we still have a new player profile and a strategy article for you all.
The profile is of
Propolys from the US, who like Skitter (our last victim) is also in clan knightmare. The article is called Sliding and Climbing and like the title suggests it shows you how to climb and slide vertical walls so you can get around quieter and faster. Go have a look!

Hey there fans! Happy new year! We've managed to get one of our reviews completed for you: Bless to Kill by Headshot. Basically this map is probably THE single most intense 1 on 1 experience you can find out there. We strongly recommend you check this baby out! The other review is in the pipeline, but with the holidays coming to an end time is not something we have much of. Anyway we can't give you a date, it's just coming soon ;)

We also have a new player profile of ]km[skitter from the USA. Go find him on the DROW servers and let him spank you about a bit!

ZzJohNzZ has also whipped up a few new trick demos for us, one is a rocketjump from the main teleporter area on DM6 to the grenade launcher - really handy for those without a ninja PC! Also there are a couple of bunny jump demos to the RA from the GA and back again(!) on DM6 also. Go check those out along with the rest of our collection in our id tricks demos section. Or you could just grab them quickly from here and here.

You may have noticed Hot Cakes' ultra-rant below, well ZzJohNzZ has managed to find a site which has been set-up to combat cheating in Quakeworld. Please, please please go and give them your support. There are hacks appearing all over the place and it would be a shame to see the best online game ruined because of a few stupid individuals. Go visit www.quakelives.com.

In case you missed it, there's also a Kombat Teams mod review up written by ZzJohNzZ that you can read here. We probably archived our news a little quickly and it could have been missed by a lot of people. You may also have missed our guide to straight strafe jumping.

Ok the new review(s) are in the process of being written, but they're not ready yet as we're both enjoying the new millenium and all it has to offer - computer bugs and an excuse for a gert large piss-up! Expect them soon.

The links section is now updated (very minor); Claranet Thrash has been changed to UKCML (UK custom map league). This is actually an excellent league played entirely on custom maps and is a real blast (Hot Cakes is in it). A big shout goes to Overlord-uk (Lordy to his friends) for setting it all up and running it.

Now that's out the way, it's time for a little rant from Hot Cakes...
As I'm sure many of you are aware, the latest Quakeworld source code has been released. In theory this means better mods, better proxies etc etc. This seems a good thing at first since it will help the Quakeworld community stay alive with the arrival of Quake3 and Unreal Tournament. However, today was a sad day for me indeed as I witnessed the first QW 'hack' in which the client code had been modified to allow the player to run around the level at literally 10 times the speed normally allowed. It was absolutely ridiculous. We all wondered how he was doing this, until after a FFA he exclaimed "it works!", he later explained that some twat had edited the code to let him do this. No doubt this hack was advertised on some website somewhere and I urge all who read this not to follow in this idiot's footsteps. Not only did it ruin the game for us all (half the players left as it was so stupid), but it actually made him fall in the lava on DM4 an unsightly amount of times. However on dm3 he was unstoppable. Once he had the quad he was impossible to kill; his speed made player prediction impossible. He could charge at you with the shaft and you'd be dead before you even realised he was there. He didn't even have to worry about timing the quad as he could reach it from anywhere on the map in a matter of 2 or 3 seconds. Needless to say, THIS REALLY SUCKS. Also, this twat at the end of his final game had the nerve to say "thanks, just testing to see if it works". What a f*ckwit! Why would he test it if he didn't want to use it again in the future. Please all you Quakeworld players out there, have some sense and don't spoil the game for others by using stupid hacks like this one. I'm sure in the future we'll see "kill all the players on the level with the touch of a button" hacks. I urge you not to support them in anyway, because they really mess up everyone else's games.

Ok now that's over with, happy new year!!

How do you like our new look for the millenium?! We've had a few people say that the text was hard to read at times and things were a little unclear. Hopefully our new style will change all this. We welcome your comments - use either of the two webmaster links in the taskbar to give us a shout.

All our old news has been archived (it needed it!), and you can get back at that if you so wish through the link on the bottom of the taskbar on the left.

As if our new look wasn't enough (no, we thought it wasn't :P), Mr Fribbles has only gone and re-released our favourite custom map reviewed here at 3AC - Powder Keg. The lighting has been re-done in most places, and while the architecture and layout are more or less identical the two new texture sets are absolutely stunning! They really need to be downloaded to be seen in all their glory - our screenshots just don't do them justice! Well, go have a look at that before a 'friend' phones you up and begs you to play Quake2 with him! Click here for the old (more in depth) review.

In the near future we have two reviews planned. We won't tell you what of yet, but rest assured that they will both be featuring totally rocking levels!
