Review: Motocross Madness 2.
Bunny jumping around e4m3 is a lot of fun. Trying to get around the board faster and faster can be quite challenging. For those quake players that like the feeling of speed that the game provides might want to check out Motocross Madness.
Motocross Madness is a simulation of various off road forms of racing. There is outdoor motocross racing that can be frequently seen on ESPN2. There is supercross that takes place in stadiums. There are two types of cross country racing labeled as baja and enduro. There is a stunt quary option for lovers of freestyle motocross and finally there is a competition section. Here you have to race a season and win prize money to keep competing.
The bikes and rider are completely customizable. If you want to race on a Honda CR250, or a YZ400f four stroke bike, it is entirely up to you. In addition to choosing the bike, you can tweak the suspension and power band. It is actually quite important to pick the right kind of bike for each event. In the cross country type events you want a bike that is quite fast once it gets up to speed. On the supercross tracks you would want to choose a 250 for fast bursts of power to make all the complicated jumps.
Well how does it play? I have had a great deal of fun playing all modes of the game. The outdoor motocross tracks are a blast. They are totally unrealistic, because anyone track owner that ran such a track would have so many accidents, the liability insurance would costs millions of dollars a year. But that is what makes the motocross section so fun. You can attempt things that no sane racer would attempt. Practice the tracks enough and you will be able to pull off some amazing stunts. The same goes with the supercross tracks. Make a nice pass and the crowd will roar with approval. Case the top of a triple jump at high speed and you can hear the crowd gasp and feel them wince. The cross country races have a lot of variety to the types of terrain and environments in which they take place. There are so many different tracks to race on, it will take weeks to master them all. Unlike the first motocross madness, its difficult to win races, even on easy skill level. You really have to know the tracks well and have you sequences of jumps planned out in order to win the race.
Is there anything I don't like in the game? Well on my geforce it is a bit dark and there is no gamma adjuster in the game. Also sometimes you can think that you are on the track, make a jump, and find out that the computer thinks you went off course. Since you are usually going too fast to turn around, you have to wait 5 seconds to be put back where the game thinks you left the track. If this happens in a race, forget about winning. You might as well start over.
You can race against others on the internet, you can record demos of you fast runs, the graphics and sounds are first class. I raced motocross for some time, and the sounds are quite authentic. The feeling of flying through the air is well done. I also cringe when I don't make a 200 foot triple jump going 90 miles an hour. That's part of the fun of motocross madness 2. You can try to make jumps that aren't humanly possible, and when you miss you can just hit the start over button. If you have any interest in racing games at all, I highly recommend this game. I have had hours of fun playing it and think it's a great product.
